Do I Qualify For Educational Discounts?

Many manufacturers offer educational discounts on their hardware or software. There are significant savings to be made by qualified users, but how do you know if you are able to buy at the reduced rate?

Each manufacturer has their own rules, the paragraphs below set out the conditions under which we provide goods from each manufacturer. If a manufacturer is not listed then we will apply the rules set by Adobe.

In all cases we will require proof of educational status before we will ship educational products.

A current NUS, Student ID or Teacher's registration card is sufficient proof of status. Alternatively, an official document such as a student loan agreement letter, school report, or similar dated for this academic year or a letter from the educational institution is necessary.

If your Student ID is not dated, we need you to tell us the name of the educational establishment you are attending and the name of the course, with start date and end date (e.g. University of Wales, HND Computing Technology, Sept 2005 - July 2007.

Adobe

Student: You are registered as a full- or part-time student at a college, university, vocational institute, or other educational establishment.

Teacher: You are a teacher, lecturer, instructor, professor, administrator, or other employee of a government-recognized educational establishment.

Eligible Education Institutions include:

Accredited public or private primary, secondary or higher education school providing full-time instruction. This includes nursery schools, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, grammar schools, schools for the handicapped, teacher training colleges, further education colleges, research institutes, adult education centres, and State run or State subsidised facilities for the re-training of the unemployed.

Administrative Offices or Boards of Education of Educational Establishments (for their own use)

Home schools approved in writing by Adobe in its sole discretion.

Government schools located in the Territory.

Hospitals that are wholly owned and operated by an Educational Establishment. Wholly owned and operated means the Educational Establishment is sole owner of the hospital and only entity exercising control over day to day operations.

Education research laboratories that are a public establishment and recognised as such, teach students as part of their research mission, can provide copy of Bylaws that state the relationship with controlling university.

Educational Consortia and Systems: Corporations and associations validly organised and existing under the laws of the Territory, with each member or shareholder of which is an accredited school.

The following instutions are not eligible:

Non-accredited schools, museums, hospitals not owned and operated by and educational establishment, churches and religious organisations, libraries, training centres or schools that grant degrees requiring less than two years of full-time study, military schools that do not grant academic degrees.

Registered Charities are able to purchase. Delivery must be to the registered charity address.

Filemaker

Eligible institutions or organizations

Educational institutions and organizations must meet one or more of the following criteria to qualify:

Accredited public or private universities, colleges, and community colleges that grant degrees requiring at least two years of full-time matriculation**

Accredited public and private institutions

University hospitals, libraries, research laboratories, and museums wholly-owned and operated by the schools above

The Department of Education, administrative offices, boards of education, and county offices of education

Home schools approved by FileMaker at its sole discretion
Non-Profit and Charitable organisations with a registered charity number

Ineligible institutions or organizations

The following institutions or organizations do not qualify:

Non-accredited schools
Government and local government organizations
Military academies that do not offer an academic degree
National laboratories
Nonprofit lobbyist groups
Institutions using the license for any commercial purpose

* A commercial purpose is any revenue-generating activity beyond the usual and customary activities educational institutions engage in.
** Institution or organization must be recognised by the Department of Education.

Microsoft

The following individuals and institutions are qualified to buy Microsoft products at academic discounts...

A(i) An academic or vocational institution accredited by the applicable governmental regulatory agency in the country in which the educational institution has its principal offices

A(ii) A not-for-profit full-time teaching institution/organisation which is non-academic and/or non-government recognised

B The local, regional or national administrative offices of one or more educational establishments described in A (i) above

C Full and part time faculty and staff of an educational institution as defined in Section A (i) above

D Full- and part-time matriculated students of an educational establishment as defined in section A (i) and full-time matriculated students of an education establishment as defined in section A (ii)

E A public library that provides basic general library services without charge to all residents of a given community, district or region.

F A public museum, organised permanently for educational or aesthetic purposes, with a professional staff and regularly exhibiting tangible objects to the public.

G A not-for-profit charitable organisation whose aim is (a) the relief of poverty, (b) the advancement of education, (c) the advancement of social and community welfare, (d) the advancement of culture, or (e) the protection of the natural environment.

Hospitals, Healthcare Systems and Research Laboratories are NOT eligible for academic product licences unless they are wholly owned and operated by a qualified Educational Establishment, as defined above in Sections A(i) and B.

Wacom

Wacom provide graphics tablets at discounted prices to schools, colleges, universities, non-profit making educational establishments, full-time students and teachers. They require us to provide proof of status.

Quark

Student, teachers and lecturers are allowed to purchase one copy of Quark Xpress. There is no requirement to be enrolled on or teaching a course requiring Quark Xpress.

Schools and universities are not allowed to purchase single Quark licences.

Proof of educational status required e.g. NUS card, enrollment certificate.
